چکیده

Eleven years ago the CT scanner was introduced into medicine world-wide. The pictures were generated by video or digital type information (photographed on to paper or film) put together to make an anatomical picture. It was not of course simply for this aspect alone that it made its impact. We already had the isotope linear scaner and gamma camera generating pictures some of which were video outputs with digital information. The presentation of the material in a simple anatomical slice made it possible for surgeons to interpret the pictures without difficulty and to act directly as a result of making the diagnosis, particularly in emergencies. At first the CT scanners were confined to neurosurgical units but they slowly spread outwards to other centres. In this country

Qualitative Evaluation of Digital Hand X-rays is Not a Reliable Method to Assess Bone Mineral Density

Object: The gold standard for evaluating bone mineral density is dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).  Prior studies have shown poor reliability using analog wrist X-rays in diagnosing osteoporosis. Our goal was to investigate if there was improved diagnostic value to visual assessment of digital hand X-rays in osteoporosis screening. We hypothesized that similar to analog counterparts, dig...

Application of characteristic X-rays to measure linear attenuation coefficient of nano-composites used in shielding

Using of X-rays in different industries and especially in medical application is increasing. In this regard, designing of light and efficient protective material based on polymeric nanocomposites and precise study of the effect of adding nanoparticles with different sizes on the X-ray attenuation is necessary. In this study the epoxy nanocomposites with different percentages of copper oxide nan...

An Overview of Technological Developments in Medical Applications of X-Rays and Radioactivity

The years 1895 to 1898 were momentous for their impact on health and human well beings. First, Wilhelm Roentgen noted a glowing fluorescent screen, caused by invisible rays. This event subsequently led to the discovery of X-rays in 1895, and thus the birth of the “atomic age”. Next Becquerel’s investigations of these mysterious rays led to his experiments with uranium salt crystals. He th...

Radioprotective effects of selenium and vitamin-E against 6MV X-rays in human blood lymphocytes by micronucleus assay

Background: Critical macromolecules of cells such as DNA are in exposure to damage of free radicals that induced from the interaction of ionizing radiation with biological systems. Selenium and vitamin-E are natural compounds that have been shown to be a direct free radical scavenger. The aim of this study was to investigate the radioprotective effect of selenium and vitamin-E separately and sy...

The Impact of Low Level X-rays on Biosynthesis of Gold Nanoparticles by Actinobacteria

Background; Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) play an important role in medical, health and environmental applications. All kinds of microorganisms were found to be able to synthesize GNPs. The optimization of laboratory conditions for achieving more economical benefits of mass production has been studied widely. Methods; This study assesses the enhancing effect of low-level X-rays on the biosynthesis ...
